Hi, my name is Satbir and I am working in the Project Management Office (PMO) as a Junior Project manager. My job is to support the engagement managers and project managers on their specific engagements/projects by taking care of project management activities such as; keeping workbooks up to date and assigning resources on to tasks amongst many other tasks.
The role gives great exposure to the work that the engagement and project managers do – this is great as that is the area I wish to work in the future. The best thing about my role is the flexibility, I am able to take on additional projects that I find interesting and they allow me to gain a great deal of experience of managing my own projects. At present I am working on creating a ‘How to’ guide designed for engagement managers; this is allowing me to meet many of the current engagement managers and find out what their day-to-day tasks include and how they can be improved.
The single greatest thing about an internship at Microsoft is the contacts you make – I work alongside very senior people and making contacts with them is a great opportunity. In addition, the intern community itself is great. Everyone is very supportive of each other and there are many social activities arranged. Furthermore, if I have question, the intern community is the first port of call as there is usually someone that has the answer.
